Starkville: A Transitional Place
The summer time always brings the good and bad in a place like Starkville, MS. It means that dear friends are moving onto the next chapter life but there always new friends waiting to be made. I guess that this is my first summer to really feel the pains of Starkville. Over the last 8 weeks I have seen many dear friends leave this dear little town. First is the was the Akins and Donald (read previous post) and now it is Jane Gray/Allan and Mary. JG and Allan hit the road hard and win the prize for moving the furthest ... California! Mary started her big girl job today in Memphis.
In a way I can't believe that both Mary and Jane Gray were my interns last year. They seemed more like great friends not my students. It was through the world of nutrition that I was able to meet these girls and now we are all working (well, JG will be soon) in a field that we love.
Over the last 48 hours I have wanted to text them and ask if they wanted to go for a walk or grab coffee and then I remember that they are no longer Starkville residents. It makes me sad to realize that they are gone but I am excited to see each of them flourish in their new home. And I will be visiting before too long but always know that I have room to welcome you back to Starkville for a weekend.
